Baby Leo's First Photoshoot
Leo (3 weeks) and Ellie (19 months)
About 18 months ago, I met a beautiful baby called Ellie (see her blog post here). Last week, I met her brand new baby brother Leo. What a pleasure it was to meet this family again, I absolutely love seeing the kids grow up as their personalities develop. Little Leo was an absolute dream baby - as most second born are. We didn't hear a peep out of him during the session, despite attempts from his big sister to wake him up!
It's the little things that matter
When little Ellie as born, we took a beautiful shot of her tiny toes, so it was important for Leo’s parents to have a matching shot of their baby boy. I love my macro lens for taking detailed shots (I use a Canon 100mm f/2.8) – it allows me to take beautifully sharp images of the eyelashes, new baby skin, dimples etc, whilst blurring the background.
It can be a bit boring and tricky with a 19 month old – the studio is small enough to keep everyone in a confined space, but not big enough for a curious mind to run around and explore. We took our time in the session, ensuring that little miss Ellie had a good time paying with her toys, which allowed me to take some natural/ lifestyle shots. Safety is paramount when working with newborns and toddler siblings, so I always ensure that at least 1 (preferably 2) adults are nearby at all times while I am photographing to ensure everyone is well-looked after.
