First Birthday Cake Smash
Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing this little girl to celebrate her first birthday – but it wasn’t an ordinary portrait session. It was a cake smash! Except, it didn’t really go to plan…the cake didn’t smash!
The Before & After
We started off the session with some ‘before’ photos and a couple of costume changes. Some casual shots of baby and her parents, plus some styled images with my favourite backdrops and props. I short in a relatively small space – my lounge converts into a studio on the weekends! So as you can see from these photos, a little bit of Photoshop magic goes into these final images.
The Non-Cake Smash
The biggest and most beautiful cake was prepared for the occasion and I was excited to see what sort of a mess we could make. Little miss had one taste of the pink icing and immediately decided it wasn’t for her! She didn’t mind the bunting and had a little play, but any time she got dirty, we were told right off! After a few attempts (i.e…bribes) it became apparent that the cake was not going to be smashed.
Did it matter?
No! Of course not, we still captured some amazing images that I know will adorn the walls of this lovely family’s home. This little one was getting a bit tired after the session (it’s hard work being a model you know!), so I took the opportunity to take some natural and candid snaps of us winding down at the end.
