2016 – what a year it was!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!
Did you see my video summary of all the photo shoots I’ve done this year? Thanks to all the beautiful families that let me capture their portraits this year, I’m sure you’ll cherish the images forever. From newborns, to infants, families, dogs and weddings – I have loved every minute! Whilst it may have been a little hectic at times, with a few late nights editing until the wee hours, I am truly grateful for the opportunity to meet so many lovely children and parents.
Whilst I can’t have favourites, I must say that meeting a newborn baby under two weeks old is such an honour – and one that I take very seriously. I love how sleepy they are when they come in, how easy going they are and how much love their parents have for this precious little being. It’s so much fun when they come into the studio for their very first photo shoot – who else has a job where they get to cuddle babies every day?!
I have a serious newborn prop addiction, so when you come into my studio, you will find loads of beautiful blankets, rompers, wraps, tiebacks and beautiful bowls/ baskets. I take newborn baby safety very seriously when hosting a session, always ensuring that baby and parents are comfortable and happy. The sessions can often take quite some time (up to three hours sometimes!), but it’s all worth it to ensure that bubs is looked after and watched every minute of the shoot.
Another fun part of my job is the editing, seeing the initial photo on the back of the camera, and then comparing it to the final image in Photoshop. Whilst the differences are often subtle (I prefer natural portraits, nothing over the top), allowing the baby to be the focus of the image is of importance to me. Check out my blog post on Before and Afters here.
