What’s in My Camera Bag?
I’m often asked what camera I use and my go-to lenses, where I buy them from and what my favourite accessories are. So I thought I’d share with you the content of my camera bag, or bags as it sometimes is! I've included a caption on each image so you can see what I'm using and why.
What camera bag do I use?
Or should I say, camera bags? I have two camera bags that I love and rely on – and which one I use depends on what type of session I’m shooting.
1. The 'Tomboy Pro' from 3 Annies
As my newborn photography shoots are always photographed inside my home studio, I choose to use my trusty Tomboy Pro Bag from 3 Annies, which is the perfect shape for grabbing lenses quickly. It’s quite long but not too wide, so it doesn’t get in the way of my studio space. It's so big that I can keep all my goodies in here (and more!) and just store it away in the cupboard.
2. The Canon Backpack
It's cheap (OK, it came free with the camera!) and it's not fancy but it does the job! When I’m shooting outdoors, I’m often running around after toddlers / puppies and timing is of the essence. So I can’t afford to drop off a bag and keep coming back to it, so a backpack is the best option for me. It’s light and compact but can fit in loads, including all my necessities. Believe it or not, this little thing can fit two camera bodies, three or four lenses and my flash!
What’s in my camera bag?
My life! Apart from the practical things like spare batteries, I will always throw in my off-camera flash (Canon Speedlight 430 EX II), spare Compact Flash memory cards, tissues, hair ties, lens cleaners and of course my lens buddy to keep the kids entertained (pictured)! If I'm doing a pet shoot, I'll always have Schmackos hidden in my bag for bribes and a sqeaky toy.
My Favourite Lens
I always have my two Canon bodies with me, I shoot with a 5D Mark III and my back up is the 5D Mark II (just in case - touch wood!). My favourite lens is my Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 which I use in every shoot - it's so super sharp and reliable. When I’m photographing indoor sessions I like to get in a bit closer so often use the Canon 50mm f/1.2. For my outdoor shoots, I love to get back a distance and use my long lens to create beautiful bokeh and blur my backgrounds. The beautiful lens that achieves this style of image is my Canon 70-22mm f/2.8, like this example.
I'm totally addicted to Camera Straps Made with Love which provide beautiful and comfortable camera straps at an affordable price (seen here).
